Take Me As I Am

I can’t imagine my life without my family.  They can appreciate the good and overlook the bad in me. For example, I asked for a set of kayaks for my birthday.  My daughters must have thought this a good idea as they both purchased one for my husband and one for myself.  But, being who I am I felt they were too small.  So, being the sweet things they are they loaded them up, not without trouble, and purchased the larger ones.  Not to mention the cost was more also.  They weren’t surprised as they knew me too well.   

Now, it doesn’t always seem like they do, but in our family, it is without a doubt that they have your back.  I have had several occasions where I needed someone to help me.  This was last Christmas.  I was just out of the hospital and had to relinquish my duties of having Christmas at my house.  My children, Michelle, in particular, took total charge and made it a wonderful experience.  It is nice to realize that you can count on someone to help you, and being family they know just how you need things to be done.  

I also find I can be truly myself with my family.  In school, teachers would say how quiet I was.  My mom was shocked because at home I was anything but.  I can say and do things my way and still be accepted without any concern of being rejected.  I can be truly myself. For example, when I would pick up the girls after work from Mom’s house they knew we had to drive past multiple houses before going home.  I have found that grandchildren aren’t this supportive!!  I love to see Christmas decorations, and how people do their landscaping, and it also helps me unwind.  When I am sick or feeling ill my family is always there to see to it that I am properly taken care of.  A couple of years ago I had a knee replacement.  My family had their hands full.  They helped my husband and myself with cleaning the house, getting meals, helping with doctor appointments, and the list goes on.  My youngest daughter has even purchased pill suitcases to keep our medications in order.  

I am so lucky that our family chooses to remain local as we truly enjoy one another’s company.  I’m not saying that there aren’t any conflicts, but we never let them get out of hand.

This Christmas was a bit overwhelming.  We had new windows put in our house.  This created things being out of place land curtains and stained glass windows to rehang.  Consequently, I got behind and my family came to my rescue once again.  My youngest daughter wrapped my presents for seven full hours.  Since Christmas was at my house, my granddaughters also came to my rescue.   Jessica ran errands for me, and Aubrey prepared a large portion of the Christmas meal.  Now that is love at its finest.  My grandson, Kadon, did remarkable things to help with decorating and cleaning.  I couldn’t have done it without all their help.

So, to me, family is without a doubt very much appreciated, not to mention very important.  When you are a “bit of a handful” there is no doubt that you need a good and caring family!
