I was at work in the law office. First of all, let me explain something. I have a strange sense of humor that not everyone either appreciates, understands, or agrees with. When something bad happens, unless it is extremely horrible, you will find me in a puddle of laughter.
Well, as I said, I was at work. My office was located in a beautiful old Victorian home. I brought this up as what happens in older homes, not all things work as they should. Our associate attorney, Randy, had a couple of new clients in his office. Since it lasted a fair amount of time, he excused himself to go to the restroom. When he came back he went to open the door. He turned the handle several times but found that the doorknob wouldn’t work. He continued to try turning the handle to no avail. Well, he started to get first nervous, then angry, and lastly humiliated. This went on for at least thirty minutes and each time he would share this unfortunate situation he would get a little more hysterical as nothing was working. I started out with a smile, knowing eventually the door would open. Well, when it didn’t and the tension in the office was escalating, my smile turned to full-blown hysterical laughter. Well, this just made Randy all the more hysterical, and I facilitated by laughing all the more. When he said, “Sandy, this is not funny”, I, of course, lost it. My smile had gone from bad to worse.
There was nothing that anyone could do to get into that office even with the clients trying to help with what they could. Unfortunately, the hinges were on the inside where the clients were, and without any tools to loosen the hinges the door was not coming off. So, having tried everything the clients ended up having to crawl out of the office window! How about that for making a good impression?
In all my years at the office, one cannot say it was boring.
