The Green-Eyed Monster
I have a bad habit of comparing myself to others and then feeling bad about how things are going in my life. I look at the people around me and see people with more money or bigger houses or people going on fancy vacations and I get jealous. Why isn’t my life like that?
This is something I want to let go of. The jealousy. That nasty green-eyed monster on my back telling me that the things I have in my life aren’t enough. Social media is a big contributor to this. I constantly have to remind myself that people only show what they want the world to see. They don’t show their credit card statements which may be overwhelming. They don’t show the challenges they have in their relationships. They don’t show the fact that the house they live in is being foreclosed on.
I frequently have to remind myself that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side if you take the time to take care of your own side and also that we don’t know what goes on behind closed doors. There are lots of people who are capable of putting on a good face for the world to see, but when they are alone, they may be miserable. Who knows?
At times like this, I take a moment and count my blessings. My family that is always there to support me. My best friends that love me unconditionally. My job that pays me well and allows me to work from home. My beautiful home. My furry family. And the list goes on.
I also look at my list of positive affirmations and recite it over and over. One that resonates with me is “I let go of all the false stories I make up in my head.”
So – look out green-eyed monster – you need to find a new home!
