Pat McCurdy
I can’t say that I have a favorite or least favorite well-known celebrity (with the exception that I CAN’T STAND the Kardashians), so I thought of a local celebrity that I really enjoy. Pat McCurdy!
From PatMcCurdy.com: Pat McCurdy is a musician who hails from Milwaukee and is finding a small but growing cult following across the country. In addition to playing in Milwaukee, he regularly plays all over Wisconsin, as well as northern Illinois (mainly Chicago) and Minneapolis. Sometimes he takes road trips to other parts of the country; the next time he does, we’ll tell you.
To explain the fun of Pat McCurdy, here is another piece from his website: One of the reasons to go [see the show] is to hear these songs that aren’t on the albums. Also, he often changes a few lyrics on songs, or does reggae or polka versions of them; if you think of it, he’ll do it. Then there are the times when he’ll have amateur night where you, yes you, can get up on stage and show off your amazing talents or even sing a song with Pat. And there are Treat Nights when Pat hands out Swedish Fish or Popsicles. Or All Request Nights. Hey, once we even played Charades. A Pat show is like a Tuesday at the Mickey Mouse Club; anything can happen and it usually does. Try it, it’s fun! Whee!
I’ve gone to see Pat at a few bars in Milwaukee and at Summerfest a bunch of years ago and the best part is watching everyone singing and dancing to his interesting (and sometimes rauchy) songs. One year, Lisa and I even got up on Stage with Pat to dance along to the song “Sex and Beer”. Now – that was probably a sight to see.
Another year – we got a signed CD from Pat. He signed it “To Brad – From Pat”. Brad was only around 3 at the time so I don’t exactly know why we had him autograph it for him.
There are some people who are religious about seeing Pat shows – they even call themselves Pat-heads. (Like the people that used to follow the Grateful Dead were Dead-heads) I was never one of those types, but I still remember a lot of his lyrics.
As I sit here thinking about Pat – I’m thinking that my kids would love to see Pat – especially the boys. Now that would be so much fun! Summerfest – here we come!
