A Few of my Favorite Things

favorite things<music note> “These are a few of my favorite things…”   <music note>

Thank you Julie Andrews for putting that song into my head.

We’ve talked about our favorite things before and the first thing that comes to mind are physical things.  This time, I thought I’d also incorporate some non-tangibles.

  1. Spending time with my kids.  This goes without saying, but spending time with my kids comes in at number 1 for me.  Especially now that they are grown.  It means the world to me when they want to be with me and sit and talk, even if it’s only for a little bit.  For example – Nathan will stop over periodically and come to my office and sit and talk with me about random things.  He may come over to the house with an alternative purpose, but he won’t leave without talking to me and giving me wonderful hugs.
  2. Problem-solving sessions with Lisa.  Over the years, this has taken different forms, from our 6 mile death marches during vacation to our current weekly Monday morning touchpoint Zoom meetings.  Depending on the time available, we will touch base on life, vent frustrations, laugh, offer advice, problem-solve, plan goals, and generally try to keep each other sane.
  3. Working on Computers.  Even though I work with computers all day long, I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have a computer.  I love organizing my life in spreadsheets and to-do lists and my computer makes them so much easier.  I also love learning new things on my computer.  Trying out new applications, thinking of new ways to do things, etc.  You’d think I’d get sick of my computer after work, but I don’t.
  4. All my fur-babies.  I have 2 labradoodles and 4 cats.  The 4 cats are actually Brad and Jessica’s cats, but my favorite is Cheech.  She is a little black cat and is a complete spit-fire.  She has no fear of anything and runs around the house like a psycho.  She makes me laugh every day, but can also drive me crazy when she crawls all over my desk while I’m working.
  5. My home.  Of the few places I’ve lived, my home in Beaver Dam is my favorite.  It doesn’t look like a big deal from the outside, but inside… Oh my.  I love it.  With the cathedral ceiling in the living/dining room, the open concept and an entire basement to play with – I think it’s beautiful.

It’s hard to limit my list to just a few things because there are so many more items I could include, but we will stick with this for now.
