I was working in San Francisco and the company I worked for was having a black-tie affair for the holidays. I had not been to a black tie event before and wanted it to be very special. My husband loved to dress up and liked to see me feeling great about having something to wear.
We went to Saks Fifth Avenue on Union Street in the city. We went to the better dresses area of the store. The saleswoman guided us to a beautiful fitting room complete with a comfortable chair for my husband and a glass of his favorite Chardonnay. The woman helping me took me out into the store and had several dresses to show me. She took them into the dressing room and helped me try each one. She had shoes and jewelry so that we could show off each ensemble.
The 3rd dress was a show stopper. It featured a black satin floor-length sheath with an overdress with long sleeves. The overdress was adorned with metallic leaves and was made of a light see-through fabric. It featured a peplum at the bottom. The shoes also featured metallic leaves. My helper showed me into the viewing room and directed me to stand up on the circular platform. I knew how I looked and felt luxurious. The look on my husband’s face told the whole story. He said, “That’s it”. It was a feeling of pure luxury to purchase this dress and an even greater feeling of luxury to enter my black tie event and see the approving looks on the other attendees’ faces.
Another area where I have felt spoiled and living in the lap of luxury is when I would enter my home and smell the aromas of a fabulous meal being prepared by my own personal chef, my husband. He did the grocery shopping, did the prep and presented each meal with pride and love. Another luxury in my life.
I don’t require a Lamborghini in the driveway or a mansion requiring caretakers. I need to know that someone cares about me and is willing to offer me the luxury of knowing my needs and fulfilling them. I have been blessed with luxury on a regular basis.
