Clutter – Lisa

The first thing that pops into my mind is….a messy desk is the sign of a creative mind.  Is that how it goes?  Well my desk is messy, my home is cluttered, my life often seems to be on the verge of chaos.

Kitchen…see that cute plant on the right?

This heaping pile of papers now sits in that spot.

What is this a sign of?  Well, maybe it is the sign of happiness.  Happiness needs freedom and laughter.  It doesn’t care if there are dishes in the sink or papers on the counter.

Maybe it is a sign of love.  Love needs stories read and help with piano lessons.  It doesn’t care if there is dog hair on the floor in the corners.

My library…before children…

Maybe it is a sign of family.  Family needs love and acceptance. Yes, and there are backpacks and books and football gear and a trumpet laying around.

A few years later…football gear, trumpet case, backpack…

Clutter is what happens when I am focused on what is important.  I haven’t yet figured out how to multi-task paying bills and helping my son with math or putting away laundry while playing catch.

Clutter…the sign of a creative mind? happiness? love? family?  I don’t know.  But I do know that it drives me crazy!  Maybe I need to apply a lesson I witnessed a few years ago when I was having lunch at Panera. I saw a young girl spill a cup of milk at the table she was eating at with her mother.  The calm words that her saintly mom spoke ring in my ears often.  As they cleaned up the drippy table together, she said, “Life is full of messes, let’s clean it up.”

  1. My favorite quote is “Just when I thought where I knew where it was at… It moved!”… That defines the clutter in my life!!

  2. My clutter not only moves, but it grows! -Lisa
