So what do you do when the space you’re stuck with is the tiniest, ugliest room in the house?
First, we went all in and painted the entire room white—to open it up and bring in as much brightness as possible. When you’re dealing with a tiny, ugly room, light becomes your best friend.
Next, we scoured the furniture store we owned for carpet remnants that were no longer needed. I gathered every tan, brown, beige, and white scrap I could find and attempted to turn chaos into Better Homes & Gardens—on a budget, with leftovers, and a lot of optimism.
You don’t often see a room carpeted in remnants, but it worked—and for the first time, the room felt intentional. It wasn’t perfect or permanent, but it was calm. It was livable. And in a space that had always felt like a compromise, that made all the difference.
