My Grandiose Growth Plan

growthEven at this old age, there is still room for personal growth.  A lot of room!  As a retired legal secretary who is now retired, I find that I have gotten sloppy and lazy, not worrying about personal growth.  Unfortunately, not have a pattern for personal growth that I feel needs work on my part:

  1. Wake Up Early:  This is a biggie for me.  After working for many, many years and having to get up and get going early, be on time, and be on a schedule, I find myself being lazy and setting no schedule at all.  This has allowed me to let things slide including the usual housework, bookwork,  necessary obligations, and not giving a shit.
  2. Read and Learn Every Day:  I would love to say I do this as I love to read, but I tend to start a self-improvement book and inevitably resort to a more interesting book, too. Such as physiological thrillers.  These really keep me unfocused and eventually help me to become extremely sidetracked.
  3. Practice mindfulness and Meditation: In the past, I have found little satisfaction in any type of meditation. But in the last couple of weeks, I have found that it is a necessary part of my time to help keep me from being overwhelmed and anxious.
  4. Set Goals and Visualize Success.  Part of my plan is to reestablish goal setting as that has helped me in the past to reach any expectations.
  5. Exercise and Stay Physically Active:  This is a biggie for me.  I used to do Jazzercise.  This made me feel energized and limber, and just plain made me feel good.  I am going to continue on this path as I feel it is really important.  Walking will be my start.  Having two dogs shouldn’t be a problem, and it would make two very sweet pups very happy, thereby making me happy, too.
  6. Eat a Nutritious Diet:  Having lost my husband of sixty-two years, I have found that eating tends to be a problem.  When having to take care of myself, I was always conscious about nutrition and cooked accordingly.  I guess herring and a salted pretzel are not a good substitute for a nutritious diet at midnight.  I have to get on a much better and more thoughtful diet.
  7. Get Enough Quality Sleep:  I have been sleeping a lot, not having a schedule to live around.  This contributes to some of the other points, such as needing more time to accomplish tasks I want to do.
  8. Find Time to Relax and Unwind:  I know how to do this, but I just don’t have much time.
  9. Reflection and Journaling.  This is something I do on a weekly basis.  This feels good as it is a good outlet to put out some imagination and socialization and helps with relationships.

So, having a lot to work on should keep me really busy and productive.  Goes to prove you are never too old to begin with a growth program.

Go me!
