Who is Judy?
The year 2024 began with me feeling like a fish out of water. I was grateful to have my banking background to fall back on, and I truly enjoyed returning to that work. It brought back many memories. There were several areas where my skills were strong—cash handling, customer service, and working with people. The gorilla in the room, frankly, was once again my technical computer skills. I was thankful to be part of a great team, and I did grow in that area, although I still have a ways to go.
Living life without my husband, Michael, continued to be difficult. He was a deeply supportive and kind influence in my life, and I am eternally grateful for the thirty-seven years I shared with my soulmate. I am still adapting to cooking for myself. Michael was amazing in this area—he did all the grocery shopping, planned the meals, and cooked wonderful dinners. I was relieved to discover that I remembered how to cook, even though it had been quite a while.
Working full-time kept my mind busy. I learned a great deal about banking in 2024 as regulations continued to tighten. Policies and procedures were of utmost importance, and at times, balancing those requirements with putting the customer first could be challenging.
I remain deeply grateful for my Sidetracked Sisters. We met regularly to write about a variety of legacy topics, including Expectations, Discipline, Growth, Hot Mess, Gossip, Karma, and even Cleaning Bathrooms, to name just a few. Thursday nights became a standing date I truly looked forward to. Together, we celebrated the publishing of our third book, and our fourth book is now in its final stages. Who knew we would become published authors?
Our son, Matt, has moved into a beautiful apartment with the love of his life, Laura. They make a wonderful team, and I enjoy having them visit regularly. The house feels happiest when Matt and Laura are home.
They also enjoy spending time with their fuzzy friend, Quincy. Quincy is our seven-year-old Bouvier des Flandres, and she keeps me in line. I occasionally have to remind her that I am the boss—not the other way around. She has been a loyal and comforting companion, and I am thankful for her presence every single day. She keeps me on my toes and brings frequent smiles to my face. Sometimes we even FaceTime with Matt and Laura so they can see Quincy.
As I look ahead, I am exploring new possibilities for “what’s next for Judy.” Financial Coaching and Transformational Coaching are at the top of my list. I believe it is time to find something I love—something I can do from home. I enjoy being in my comfortable space, alongside my faithful buddy, Quincy.
Sidetracked Sisters
Sidetracked Sisters are two sets of sisters, one generation apart. The older sisters are as alike—and as different—as two sisters can be. One brunette and one blonde, one green-eyed and one brown-eyed. One stayed rooted in Beaver Dam, while the other traveled a bit.
Sandy had two daughters, forming the second set of Sidetracked Sisters. Again, one brunette and one blonde, both with brown eyes, and as similar—and as different—as sisters can be.
The name “Sidetracked Sisters” originated from the craft shows we hosted in our homes each year, especially during “Widow’s Weekend.” Professionally, our group consists of a retired paralegal, a retired banker, a retired teacher, and a hardworking computer software engineer. Sidetracked Sisters gives our creative sides permission to come out and play. It provides one more outlet to joke, criticize, tease, gently insult, and—sometimes—truly support one another.
We have also learned that if you ask for an opinion, you are guaranteed to receive four different ones.
