I was on vacation and Bradley called out of the blue. “Mom – what would you think if you came home there were 2 more cats in the house?” “Seriously?” I replied, “You have to be joking.” He wasn’t. I returned from vacation to 2 adorable black kittens that he named Cheech and Chong. Now our house had 4 cats and 2 dogs. It was the epitome of a zoo.
Two years went by and during those years, I became very attached to Cheech. She was my baby. She would follow me around the house. The minute I sat down somewhere, she was on my lap. She would even sleep with me. She completely melted my heart. Before her, I never considered myself a cat person.
Then it came time for Bradley to move out and to my horror, he was taking his cats! Even my little Cheech. Right as he was moving out, we went on our family vacation, so it didn’t really hit me that she wasn’t home anymore. When I came home from vacation, I went to Brad’s house to bring him some things and I saw my little Cheech. When tears came to my eyes, I realized she had made me into a crazy cat lady. I missed the daily interactions I had with her. It was that day that I also realized I had to get myself a replacement.
As I said, I wasn’t a cat person, so I always looked to the family cat expert, Lisa, when having any questions about cats. When Jess first got her cats, we were originally only going to get one, but Lisa said if you’re going to get one, get two. So we got Cheese and Bleachy. That was the best thing we did. They played with each other and kept each other entertained. Then came Cheech and Chong. Again – they played with and entertained each other. When deciding about my replacement for Cheech, I knew I wasn’t going to get just one cat, I needed two.
The babies had been raised in a house with small children, adult cats, and a dog, so coming to our environment was a non-issue.
The kittens popped out of the carrier after everyone smelled them and immediately began running around the house. The older cats didn’t pay much attention to them and neither did the dogs. I was amazed!
We still hadn’t solidified a name and were still calling the white-tipped one Dipstick, until Jess referred to them as Dipper and Daisy and it hit me – Little Dipper and Crazy Daisy. It was perfect!
