My Children are Innocent!!

innocentWe were up at our family cabin, enjoying our vacation together when Lisa came flying into the cabin and yelled, “Fire!”

Prior to this hysteria, we were all doing our own thing.  Lisa was cleaning up the kitchen after dinner and the rest of the family was milling around or watching TV.

Part of the kitchen cleanup involved taking the garbage to the shed.  When she went to the shed and opened the door, she was confronted with a garbage can spewing flames!  She immediately ran into the cabin and didn’t know where to turn first.  It was like stuttering but with her body instead of her voice.  Suddenly her voice returned and she yelled “FIRE”!

Dad appeared out of nowhere and hollered “WHERE?” Lisa replied “SHED!”  Then as if Dad were Houdini himself, a fire extinguisher materialized in his hands and he ran out to the shed.  The flames were quickly doused and no major damage was done.

During this commotion, I was thinking in horror “Oh no – what have my kids done now?”  I just knew that one of them had probably done it.  They were usually doing something to get hollered at. Lisa and I each began to interrogate our own children and everyone swore that it wasn’t them.  They didn’t do it. So now it was Dad’s turn to investigate.

One by one, from oldest to youngest, Dad talked to each of the kids.  After his questioning was done, he quietly walked over to Lisa and said “You might want to talk with your youngest son.”

innocentYou can’t imagine the joy I felt when I realized for the first time that the tides had changed and it was now Lisa’s kids getting into trouble instead of mine.  I was over the moon with glee.  My kids are innocent!!!
