There’s a Mouse in my House
I am going through a rather precarious time in my life. I am having a difficult time identifying anything that I am excited about or looking forward to. I am finding small joys in the little happenings of life.
I went into the bathroom in my basement this week. I was appalled to find mouse droppings in the bathroom sink. I thought the soap dish contained a blob of mashed potatoes. It turned out to be major evidence of the mice having feasted on my new bar of safeguard. I searched the bathroom to see if I could find evidence of other interest by my unwanted household residents. So I went out and purchased several mousetraps and then proceeded to do nothing with them. I just didn’t like the thought of going down in my basement daily and having to deal with deceased critters.
I guess I would have to say that I’m going through a live and let live phase in my life. I think the mice are coming in through the basement windows. They are not finished off very well and offer several opportunities for entrance. I have been looking for a handyman to come and finish off the windows. My plan is to finish off the moldings and casements around the windows and then to put up some curtains to finish off the window area.
OK, let’s go with that. I am looking forward to mouse hunting, finishing off my basement windows and fixing up the downstairs bathroom. It has lots of potential.
In my present state of mind, this sounds like a huge undertaking. In reality, it is a great series of rainy day projects moving toward getting me motivated to start on my spring planting. I’ve always heard that getting started is the hardest part of any project. I’m looking forward to getting started on my basement and to having a finished product that I am proud of.
Perhaps completing this project will get me excited about looking at other projects around the house. I enjoy my home and would enjoy it more if I had some things completed. Motivation is a terrible thing to lack. I’m looking forward to mustering up the motivation to getting started on making my house feel complete and relaxing. It’s a long shot but I’m going to go with it.
Frankly, at this phase in my life, looking forward is a hard attitude to come by. I think I must join the “One step at a time club” and see what I can muster up. With a few unfinished projects out of the way, I feel confident that I can find the energy to find new things to look forward to.
I did commit recently to participating in a sky-diving adventure this summer. I’ve been looking forward to doing this for most of my life. Time to make this lifetime dream a reality. I’ll look forward to it as I get my projects completed. Finally, something great to look forward to!
