That Would Feel Luxurious
Have you ever thought about what feels luxurious to you or what would it take to make you feel like you were living a luxurious life? At first, I had absolutely no idea what would give me that feeling. Others were talking about having cleaning ladies or cabins on the lake or someone taking care of them, but none of those resonated with me.
Growing up, I learned the lesson that if it was broken, we could fix it. If it needed cleaning, we could clean it. If it needed remodeling, we could remodel it. If it needed painting, we could paint it. There was no reason to pay someone to do something that we could do ourselves. So, being a homeowner, I’ve been a do-it-yourselfer (or at least I help my dad be a do-it-himselfer). As we are aging, the things we used to do ourselves is getting a bit more challenging.
My house needs painting. Normally – I would say that I could go out and do it myself, but to hire someone to do it for me??? That would feel luxurious.
My basement needs remodeling. Normally – I would enlist Mom and Dad and we would do it ourselves, but to hire someone to do it for me?? That would feel luxurious.
My yard and gardens need weekly upkeep. Normally – I would grab Mom and we would work on it together, but to hire someone to do it for me?? You guessed it – that would feel luxurious.
I want to have the freedom and time to do the things that I want to do. Taking care of the yard work, the house cleaning, the home repairs, the laundry, and the cooking are not my idea of fun. They are the necessary items that need to be taken care of, but they don’t bring me joy.
Now I just need to figure out how to afford my live-in handyman/gardener/maid. Does anyone have any suggestions?
