Escape Room Adventures

This past weekend, my kids, their significant others and I went to an escape room in Wisconsin Dells.  It was a Christmas present from me to all of them and we wanted to do it before a couple of them went back to school.  Last year, for my birthday, they treated me to an escape room adventure in Madison and we had so much fun that I knew we had to try it again.

In each escape room, we were given 60 minutes to try to solve all of the puzzles in order to finish the room.  Last year – we managed to solve all the puzzles in only 30 minutes and were told that we were one of the fastest groups to finish.  The kids all told me that next time, we should try something a bit harder.

When trying to find a more challenging adventure, I began by searching “Hardest escape rooms in Wisconsin”.  I found a place called Booby Trap Escape Rooms and booked one of the two rooms classified as hard.

To say it was hard is a bit of an understatement.  First of all – while in the room, someone accidentally pushed the emergency exit button which opens the door (in case of bathroom emergencies) and we were in a part of the escape room that we weren’t supposed to be in yet.  That wasted about 5 minutes of our time right away.  Once that issue was corrected, we continued trying to solve the puzzles but needed hint after hint in order to  get to the next level.

kidsAs the timer dwindled down and finally ran out, we thought we were at the end, but as our game master came in – she told us that there was yet another room we would’ve still had to finish.  Ugh!!  We probably would’ve needed another 30 minutes and a few more hints to finish this one.

The kids and I decided that the next time – maybe we should go for a medium-level room so that we can actually solve it.

So when trying to think of a happy parenting moment, I would have to say that any time I get to spend time with my kids would qualify.  Seeing them interacting with each other, getting hugs from them, telling stories and just being around them makes me a very happy mom.
