I think I may be the only person in the world that hates shopping. It totally stresses me out. I can never think of something wonderful to get for the person I’m shopping for. Or if I do think of something wonderful – by the time I actually need to get the present – I’ve forgotten what that wonderful thing is!!
Christmas presents aren’t as bad. I’ve got a pretty good system down for Christmas, but I am one of those people that ends up shopping straight till Christmas Eve. I don’t think I’ll EVER be someone who gets their shopping done all year long. (I’d forget what I got and where I put it!!)
My best shopping method is online though. I can’t stand going to the store. It doesn’t matter what kind of store it is… Grocery, household, clothing, antique… any of them drive me nuts.
That’s probably where my aversion to shopping started… Antique shopping! As a kid – the mom’s would disappear to go antique shopping for hours at a time and the kids would come along. I absolutely hated antiques and would say – “Can I PLEASE just sit in the car?!” I would literally sit in the car for hours. I would bring a book and read or simply go to sleep. Anything to avoid shopping.
Now – whether its grocery shopping or clothes shopping – I still hate it! I hate trying clothes for one… and for groceries – well – I hate to cook and food costs so darn much! It takes all the fun out of it!
The only benefit to shopping that I can see is when the person receiving the results of my shopping shows how excited they are about what I’ve got for them. The best expression of gratitude is the attitude of doing a cartwheel (showing extreme excitement), but I’ll take what I can get. Just don’t complain about what I bought or next time – YOU get to go shopping instead of me!!
