When Serendipity Called
There was a time in my life when I felt stuck. Not falling-apart stuck—just that quiet, restless kind of stuck. The kind where the days blur together and you wonder if this is all there is. I wanted more. I wasn’t even sure what “more” meant—just that I was craving connection, joy, maybe even a little magic.
That’s when I read The Secret.
Say what you want about manifesting, but I was in the mood to believe. I pulled together pictures of everything I wanted more of: smiling faces, friendship, money, laughter, purpose. I made a dream board and set it as the background on my computer so I’d see it every single day. No plan. Just intention. Just trust.
And then—one day—my phone rang.
It was Alison.
Now, let me pause here: I barely knew Alison. We were casual acquaintances at best. She had married a guy I graduated high school with, and we’d never really connected beyond polite small talk. So when she called me out of the blue and said, “Hey, can you come over tomorrow? I have something I want to show you,” I nearly fell off my chair.
I didn’t care what she wanted to show me—it could’ve been a pile of dog poop and I still would’ve gone. She wanted me to come over. That alone had me feeling like a kid on Christmas morning.
When I got to her house, she welcomed me in, beaming. Then she introduced me to something called TEAM—a business opportunity she’d recently joined. It was about personal growth, building community, and creating residual income. Honestly, I didn’t understand all of it right away. But I could feel her excitement. And, more than that, I could feel something stirring in me.
And then she said something that stopped me in my tracks.
“I was terrified to call you,” she admitted. “You intimidate me.”
Wait—what?
I nearly laughed. Me? The woman gluing hope into a digital dream board because she didn’t know what else to do with her life? The woman who had no idea what was coming next?
But in that moment, something clicked. A door opened. Not just the one to her living room. A door to possibility. And a door to one of the most important friendships of my life.
Alison is a beautiful, smart, and talented woman, and I am so incredibly blessed to have her in my life. That unexpected phone call, that little act of bravery on both our parts, created something lasting. Something life-giving.
Serendipity doesn’t always look like fireworks. Sometimes, it looks like a quiet phone call. A knock on the door. A business pitch over wine.
But it can change everything.
