Salon Nightmare

I was in high school and it was time for the Turn-About dance, where the girls invite the boys to the event.  I had everything planned, from where we going to eat to how I wanted to do my hair.

For this special occasion, Mom and I decided to splurge and go to a salon to get my hair done.  I was so excited about this idea.  I had never had my hair done professionally before and just the thought of it made me feel fancy.

Mom and I made the hair appointment for 3 hours before I needed to be ready and I excitedly waited to tell the hairdresser my plans.  It wasn’t going to be a difficult hairstyle.  I had long hair – down to the middle of my back.  I wanted a french braid going from one side of my head, over the top and braided down the other side.  The back of my hair was to be curled to give it some body.

After an hour of sitting in the salon chair, we left and I wanted to cry.  I must’ve had a brand new girl because she didn’t even know how to french braid hair.  The braid was so loose, that my hair was falling out of it before we even made it the 10 minutes home.  The back of my hair had been minimally curled and then she teased it to poof it out.  On top of all of that, there were “sticky-outies” everywhere.  It was the worst job I had ever seen someone do.

Needless to say, I got home and took out everything she had done, brushed my hair to undo the teasing, and started from scratch.  I did my own french braid and curled the ends of the back a bit to clean up the fuzz the hairdresser had made.  It wasn’t the best job in the world, but it was light-years better than what I had received.

From that point on, I have NEVER had a hairdresser do my hair for a big event.  Not even for my wedding!
