Goldilocks and the Three Bears
Over the past several days, I have picked my brain to remember when I heard fairy tales. I remember the more recent telling of fairy tales through Disney films and children’s books. All of these mediums have softened up the original tales told by the Brothers Grimm.
The Fairy Tale that I favor is Goldilocks and the Three Bears. I remember the version where the naive blonde girl gets lost in the woods and comes across a charming cottage. The Papa, Momma, and Baby Bear that occupy the cottage are out for a walk. Goldilocks enters through an unlocked door and finds 3 bowls of porridge cooling on the table. She tastes each of the bowl’s contents. The large bowl is too hot, the medium size bowl is too cold and the small bowl is just right. She finishes the bowl and continues to explore the cottage.
Her exploration includes trying out rocking chairs, and finally beds. The porridge has made her tired and she falls sound asleep. The bears return home and find Goldilocks asleep in the baby bear’s bed.
Very simply, I could picture myself as that little blonde-haired, naive girl. I could see myself letting my curiosity get away with me and checking out the cozy cottage. The three choices in each area appealed to me. Just the right temperature, the right size, and the right comfort. I found it comforting that Goldilocks had 3 three choices from which to pick, giving her the opportunity to find the one that was just right.
I truthfully can’t remember the ending of the Tale. I suspect the bears were agreeable and wouldn’t harm our heroine. So basically I like the just right philosophy.
