Cinderella
I don’t remember ever having someone read to me as a child. I would have assumed that is when fairy tales would have been introduced into my world. But I don’t remember having this activity in our home for some reason.
As an adult, I love watching the movies we see on TV such as Cinderella, Snow White, the Lion King and the list goes on. I have been told there are actually two very different versions of fairy tales. The ones that I am referring to always have a happy ending, have beautiful music, and are so enjoyable. Now, there is a version called Grimm Fairy Tales. I have this book, but truthfully, I never read a page. I guess it is a good thing as the stories are quite morbid and depressing.
If I had a favorite fairy tale I guess it would be Cinderella. The version I enjoyed had magic, great music, and the important part, a happy ending. Now, I am told that in the Grimms Fairytale book, there is a very different series of events. This includes the step-sisters having their feet chopped off and later their eyes pecked out for being so mean. The story is quite different as for one there is no fairy godmother, no carriage, no singing birds, and some very graphic and awful happenings.
Thank heaven that our children can enjoy the nice version of these fairy tales. We have enough horrible things happening in this world of ours, but it is fun to live in the fantasy for some enjoyment.
I feel it is so important to read to our children. I remember in Fifth Grade my teacher read the book, “Black Beauty”. That was the best part of the day for me.
If you have ever read a fairytale to a group you will know how fun it is to do this. It’s a whole lot of play-acting and enjoyable seeing the kids get into the book.
So grab a book and find your favorite Fairy Tale, hopefully to a child.
