Someday When I’m Dead and Gone…

“Some day when I’m dead and gone… then you’ll appreciate me”.  I can’t even count the number of times I’ve heard that phrase from Mom’s mouth when I’m doing or saying something to her that she doesn’t like.

Situation #1.

I’ve cleaned my house from top to bottom and I’m proud of how things are looking.  Mom comes over and moves my living room rug to a different position.  Next, she tells me that I really should scrub my bathroom toilet better.  I tell her to stop criticizing what I’ve done because I thought things were fine.  Mom says, “Some day when I’m dead and gone… then you’ll appreciate me”.

Situation #2.

Mom is talking about her health to me and I tell her that she should really come up with some additional topics for discussion. She tells me that I’m being mean to her and should be more concerned about her health. Mom says, “Some day when I’m dead and gone… then you’ll appreciate me.”

Situation #3.

We are working on our Sidetracked Sisters blog or creating our Facebook posts.  Mom has forgotten how to access our Google docs or share a post on Facebook and I get frustrated having to remind her yet again about how to do something that we have done countless times before.  She doesn’t appreciate my sarcastic tone. Mom says,  “Some day when I’m dead and gone… then you’ll appreciate me.”

Situation #4.

My kids and I are having a discussion about a random topic and I repeat something that I had just said not 5 minutes earlier.  My kids become impatient with me and inform me that I’m repeating myself and they don’t need to hear the same comment multiple times.  I look at them and I hear the words coming out of my mouth before I can stop them… “Some day when I’m dead and gone… then you’ll appreciate me.”
