Taking Control of Your Body Image

“Come here girls – stand back to back and let’s see who’s butt is bigger?”

“Boy ‘Chelle – you’re built like a brick shit house”

“Your sister sure looks good in that size 4 – too bad you can’t wear something like that”

These are things that I’ve heard in my lifetime from various members of my family.  I was always very thin until I started having kids, but needless to say, I still heard these things.

I think part of the issue came into play because we always had good food in the house.  I know that sounds weird, but the fact is that junk food was not allowed.  It wasn’t forbidden, it just wasn’t brought into the house.

Once I went to college – I had no one deciding what I was eating except myself.  If I wanted to eat an entire pizza followed by an entire cheesecake – that was cool.  No one was there to say “No”.  The problem was exacerbated by the fact that in college – I wasn’t nearly as active as I was in high school.  In high school – I was in cheerleading, marching band, working as a waitress… I was always on the go.  In college – nothing.

Now that my kids are older, I need to work on my weight again, but it’s so much harder.  I don’t eat a lot, but I still don’t make the best choices on what I eat.  I hate most vegetables, I love carbs and I LOVE sweets.
