How to Ruin Summer

schoolThat time is here again, meaning the dreaded times, SCHOOL IS STARTING!

I always despised the start of school.  I loved summer when there were no deadlines to speak of, I could sleep in, and I had the option of having the time to do what I wanted and if I wanted to do.

It was absolute torture to sit in a hot classroom with the sun shining and just having the urge to get outside.

It felt like being a caged animal and wanting to escape.  Under those circumstances, concentrating on boring subjects was nearly impossible.

Even my mom would be sad that summer was over and school was going to start.  She hated dragging kids out of bed and starting up the necessary school routine.  This affects parents also as their schedules have to change with the activities of the kids.  Today there are many more activities that I had when in school which created that much more hysteria and scheduling for the parents.

Starting school meant going to bed earlier at night, and getting up at some ungodly hour in the morning.  In most cases, I tried to cram some last-minute homework that I accidentally forgot to do the night before, tried to find time to eat breakfast, and got sent on my way to school rain or shine.  Another point here is that we had to walk to school even on rainy or snowy days.  “Oh my God”, we did not get rides to everything.

What a drag.  I think for me, school should start at 1:00 p.m. and end at 4:00 p.m.  That should be enough pain for one day.  And homework should be banned as it interferes with life.

Now on the plus side, I do wish I paid better attention to my school days.  Once I went to Senior High things straightened out and I excelled.  This enabled me to get a good job and gave me the option to continue my education even though it was in later years.

School is a good thing.  It prepares you for a better life and opens doors that would be unavailable without an education.

Let’s face it, sitting on the couch, watching TV, playing games, and eating bon bons, doesn’t allow for mental growth and a better life.
