Oh Such Memories!
Remembering past fads is fascinating and laughable.
In particular, I am thinking about the 1970s. I was beyond my years for the most part not having gone on to school, but that didn’t stop my wanting to fit in with those my age. I got married in 1963 and started my family shortly after that. I always enjoyed fashion and tried to keep up with all the trends.
My husband worked at the J.C. Penney Co. at that time, which helped us keep up the clothing trends for young men and women at that time.
One of the most interesting outfits I remember was a short-sleeved burgundy velour hot pantsuit. With this ensemble, I wore white leather knee-high boots. I also had long hair parted in the middle. Art felt very suave in his huge black wide-bell bottom pants with a burgundy pinstripe going up the side of the pants. With this, he wore a white long-sleeved lacy shirt. This had a large pointed collar and the front was open down to almost his belly button to expose the possibility of his chest hair. On his feet, he wore black platform shoes. With this, he actually had a full head of hair with porkchop sideburns. (What a heartthrob)!!!
This comes to my mind as bizarre is that we actually wore these outfits to things such as a retirement party and a promotional party for one of the managers. Only the very young could get away with these attires and looking back I feel we were just past this borderline. Now I think WOW, how did we justify wearing these outfits? We certainly were not dressed like the associates who had to be way beyond this point in their lives.
Oh, such memories!
