Green Drink vs. Gin and Tonic

You might think that I have a touch of bipolar with this one. You see, I definitely have a morning drink and an evening drink…and these two are at the opposite end of the beverage spectrum.

In the morning, I love to start the day on a positive note. I pull out my large Ninja cup. First I fill it to the top with chopped organic kale. Then, I add one banana or 1/2 of an avocado. Next is a teaspoon of chia seeds and a scoop of vanilla protein powder. Then, depending on the day I may add a raw egg for extra protein. I finish by filling the container up with purified water. After blending for a minute, I have a smooth, yummy, bright green breakfast drink that makes me feel healthy, happy, and hydrated. It keeps me full for about 4 hours.

I drink water throughout the day, room temp, no ice. Maybe a cup of coffee here or there. Perhaps, once in a while, orange juice. Soda…rarely.

Don’t be boring with your G&T!

Now, my evening drink is definitely a strong gin and tonic. It makes me go “ahhh” just thinking about it. The tonic is crisp and the gin tastes like the juniper berries that it comes from. In the winter it is reminiscent of a Christmas tree (happy holidays if I didn’t say so 3 months ago) and in the spring/summer, it is crisp and fresh like hiking through pine woods with a cool breeze at your back. The perfect all-season drink. The only thing that would make it MORE perfect is if it was served with olives (or olive oil?) as well as the lime twist–what do you think?

A perfect day would be one bookended with my 2 favorite drinks–happiness in plastic tumbler/highball glass. Beginning on a positive note. Ending on a positive note. One gets me going. The other lets me sit back and reflect. Bi-polar? Maybe. But it works for me.

Bottoms up!
